I saw three '08 Mini Clubmans today! What is the deal? Where did they all come from?
The original Clubman had (and probably still has) style - it was a normal Mini with a bunch of wood nailed onto the back and it was all the more practical for it - but the new one? I can only guess that a Line Manager at Hotpoint had to come up with a project for 'newbie' and gave him a picture of the original Clubman as a joke starting point for the design of their new fridge! Unfortunately for Joe Public, Mini got their hands on newbie's blueprints!
Ok, maybe that's not really fair; but boy does that car look crap. I know full-well that the old Mini vs new Mini vs new New Mini debate has been done all over, but I can't help myself (and anyway this is no debate). The Mini is just a contradiction in terms. Let me write a list...
- It's not 'mini'
Job done.
When it comes to the Mini, what was cool (and built) in the past, is still cool today (if a little rusty). But then having said that, if hair dressers and estate agents could have afforded cars in the 70s, would it have been a completely different story?
